Sage is a 1 1/2 year old, English Toy Spaniel who has a big dog attitude and puppy energy! Despite being a tiny nine pounds, her size is no obstacle to getting what she wants from her foster family and their two Cavaliers. She made her marching orders clear from the first day here, and 'first' is key to keeping in her good graces! As long as she gets fed, treated, let out, and 'lapped' first, we all get along just fine. Did I mention that she has first dibs on a bed pillow and blanket location as well? Breaking her rules will bring on some gruff barking and huffing, but once you are back in line, she quickly forgives. :) She likes to play tug o' war with her humans, enjoys tag with one of the Cavaliers, and curls up next to the other, much older one on the couch for frequent naps. Sage has trained us to watch for her signals to go out and take care of her business, but she is so tiny that we occasionally lose track of her in the house so she has peed on door mats but less frequently as we become better trained! Sage likes her people and keeps track of where we are. She isn't a lap dog, at least yet, but she is happy to sit near you. She shares an interesting trait with several Cavaliers that I have had...she is a 'head sitter', sleeping on my pillow on top of my head at night and jumping up to the top of my reading chair to breathe down my neck when I am reading. Sage is getting more comfortable with new people and older, gentle children. The high-pitched voices and sudden movements of young children make her grumble and we think with her controlling personality, she might be better off in a family without young children. Another dog, preferably with a mellow personality, would be good for her, but not necessary. Overall, she is a fun and affectionate pup who would be a wonderful pet for a small family that has a flexible schedule as she does not like to be crated and needs to relieve herself more frequently than larger dogs. If Sage sounds like the pup you have been waiting for, please fill out an application on our webpage and specify that you are interested in Sage.
Sage has been diagnosed with Spondylosis of L6-L7 and L7-S1 and it is suspected that she has syringomyelia. Both conditions are currently managed with medications and chiropractic care. She also has a Grade 1 Heart Murmur
