What an appropriate name for this pup! Sweet and mellow but also full of energy. If I didn’t know better, I would say she was around five years old. Maybe keeping up with multiple litters of puppies gave her the stamina to keep up with the younger dogs in her foster home! Mocha has only been with us a few weeks but is comfortable with her three Cavalier siblings, cruising the yard with the pack and curling up nearby when they nap. Even with a couple of naps during the day, she puts herself to bed around 7-8, preferring a comfy fuzzy doughnut bed to the floor, crate or human bed. She is a good eater but needs mostly soft canned food since she had to have many of her teeth removed. Though she might grumble if one of the other dogs tries to stick their nose in her dish, she is usually the first done and then cruises the others’ dishes to look for leftover tidbits. Mocha is learning to sit for treats and if she sees her people waving to her, she will come running. She loves to nap on laps or next to her humans or dog siblings but if she is awake, she will want to keep an eye on you. Never underfoot, she hovers nearby hoping for attention, dropped food, or a treat! As with many Cavaliers, she lost her hearing as she aged, but seems to be open to learning hand signals and from watching the other dogs. Mocha is very friendly and seems to enjoy children as well as any adult with an open lap! She enjoys walks and does well with the leash, watches other people and dogs go by but has not shown any aggression and can easily walk a couple of blocks without slowing down. We think Mocha is so easy-going, she would do well in almost any small household, even with children, but would prefer someone home at least part-time. A fenced yard or access to a safe dog area, particularly if there are children in the home, is very important because of her hearing loss. Another dog would be great, but she would do well as an only dog with the right family. If you have been looking for a sweet Cavalier who has a lot of love to give, please consider applying to adopt Mocha.
